First night in Manila, Philippines

We arrived in Manila around noon on a Sunday. There was no traffic and the roads were easy to drive. I think it was a good time to arrive that day. Gave us time to adjust and just relax.

My friends from childhood picked us up at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. I was glad the airport was organized. I couldn’t use my cell phone (Verizon). I tried using one of the plan they offered, $10 a day, but I couldn’t send or call anyone at all. I turned my data off and turn the airplane mode just in case I get charged. FYI, no free WiFi at the airport. Only free for anyone who has globe or smart phones. Good thing my friend lend me her extra phone and I used hotspot for my phone to work.

Once we got outside where the “greeting area” was. My friends found me right away. There’s an area for people to park in front of the airport for some time and made it easier for us.

We made a reservation at Go Hotels Manila AirPort Road. It was too early to check in so we just dropped our bags and left.

After dropping off our things at the hotel. We went to Manam Comfort Filipino. It’s a Filipino restaurant. There was a bit of a wait, but the restaurant was clean and the staff was very friendly.

We were told not to drink tap water. Only bottled water or soda in can and no ice. We didn’t want to risk getting sick in our trip.

My friend Grace ordered for us and she did great with the choices. Since I have never been there, I told her she can order for us. She ordered a lot!

One of my favorites was the house crispy sisig. The others were good, but I’m satisfied with the sisig with white rice. There palabok was good, too, and the presentation was pretty cool.

After lunch we went back to the hotel and checked in. The room was pretty small but we were just there for 1 night. We had to catch an early flight the next day anyway. Go hotels Manila Airport Road was about 10-15 minutes away. Grab costs around $5.

Flying with EVA Air from San Francisco to Philippines

I finally visited the Philippines after 19 years since I moved to California with my family.

Thank goodness for social media, I wouldn’t be able to keep in touch with my friends and family.

We flew with Eva Air from San Francisco to Taipei. It took about 13 hours, but it felt like forever. It was a very uncomfortable. Their economy seats were too small. I suggested you to pay extra for bigger seats and bigger spaces for your legs. I am a small person and I was not comfortable at all. I probably slept around 3-4 hours.

You do get your own tv monitor and they have free movies, but very limited. They served us 2 meals. One for dinner 2 hours after take off and one for breakfast 2 hours before landing. Food was surprisingly good. You can also request specific diet after buying the tickets. I selected the diabetic food and my husband selected whatever was available. However, I didn’t select any diet restrictions on our flight back home and I had more choices.

Here are some examples of food they offered during our flights.

We landed in Taipei and had about 2 hours layover. The gates were not far away from each other, but their system was very unorganized. My husband and I had to guessed what to do. They were screaming at people to grab a card, but they didn’t really explain what it was for. We basically just followed other people ahead of us.

We had to go through security again inside the airport for transferring gates. Which I feel like it wasn’t necessary, but I guess its different every airport.

They have a lot of stores in the airport and there was the Hello Kitty store. Our gate C3 was where the Hello Kitty store and I was happy to hang around the store while we waited for our plane, but I didn’t know that our gate was underneath. I heard people talking, we still need to walk down the stairs to our gate. My husband and I walked down the stair and found the C3 gate. It was a really odd airport, but I was glad we arrived at our gate on time.

They let people in by their zone number, 30 minutes before departure time.

Taipei to Manila was very easy. It was about 2 hour flight. Our seats were actually bigger, but the plane was smaller. We were surprised how comfortable, and we were offered a meal.

We have arrived in Manila!

Manila was hot and sticky! Their “free WiFi” at the airport was not really free. You have to have a Philippine number to be able to use their free WiFi. Ninoy Aquino airport was organized. Everyone spoke English pretty well and everyone was very helpful.

Since I couldn’t use any WiFi. We followed the signs. We picked up our bags, a bit of a wait, but went through the customs pretty easy.

We walked out and followed the “greeting area” sign. You take left if your last name starts with A-L and M-Z to the right. Since I couldn’t get a hold of my friends. We came outside and followed the “O” signs. I didn’t even get to “O” and we already found each other! It was a big reunion for us!

What a day! I was so happy to be at the Go hotel. For 19 years everything changed!

Nintendo Switch

I bought the Nintendo Switch before when it first came out, but after a few months I sold it on Craigslist. I didn’t enjoy the console. At that time they didn’t have a lot of games that’s why I got bored with it.

Just last Thanksgiving Black Friday I found a deal at Target. It was $299 with MARIO 8 kart bundle. And on top of that we can use our Target Red Card for additional 5% off. And I added a game for $29.99 (Crash bandicoot) and the totally was $289. That was a really good deal! I bought another game the next day, but I honestly haven’t opened the game yet! It was Overcooked 2. I watched it on YouTube and it looked so fun. I never played it, but it was on sale for $25 at Amazon and Target. The original price was $38.99

I will post a review about the games in a few days or so. Stay tune..

If target was sold out, my second store was GameStop. Their promotion was $299 for the console and a $50 gift card. It’s still a pretty good deal if you’ll ask me.

I haven’t stopped playing with the switch. I even signed up for Nintendo Switch Online. You can sign up for 7 day trial or a monthly payment. Here’s the link for their Membership.

My sweet, loving, best dog..

I never knew how difficult to lose a pet. I had to say goodbye to my sweet, loving dog, Tazz. He was diagnosed with diabetic ketoacidosis. I know I shouldn’t blame myself. But I feel like if I did take good care of his health a little better, he could still be here with me. I blame myself on feeding him human food, not taking him to the veterinary for regular check up and only waited if there was something wrong. But thinking about all of that made me realized that even though I wasn’t on top of his health. I was there for him for 12 years. I made sure he ate daily, had water available anytime, I gave him lots of hugs and kisses and I gave him shelter to live in.
People kept on telling me that it wasn’t my fault and I gave him a second chance in life by adopting him when he was a puppy. He was found under a taco truck in Oakland. And the moment I met him I couldn’t resist on adopting him.

He wasn’t easy after we adopted him. He was very scared of everyone, especially anyone who was wearing a hat. After few months of getting to know each other. He finally opened up and showed me he was ready to be the best dog. He showed me trust, respect and love.

My daily routine involved around him. He doesn’t get up until I get up. I go to the bathroom, he waits by the door or when I eat at the table, he stayed under the table and when I take naps he naps with me. He has been everywhere I been. He knew my body language and the tone of my voice. He was the best dog!

Tazz, you were an amazing dog. You showed me so much love, respect and trust. I hope you felt the same. You will always be my only Tazz. I love you so much and we will miss you so deeply! Thank you for the wonderful 12 years you spent with us. Rest In Peace my love.

San Diego Comic Con 2017

My first time attending San Diego Comic Con was 2017. I have been trying to get in the convention since 2014. 3 years of hoping to get in at least for 1 day were disappointing but, finally, Comic con 2017 gave me a chance to check out what Comic Con is all about.

I didn’t know trying to buy a pass was a bit of a work. You can check out my other blog on How Can I get attend San Diego Comic Con. Check out their website! San Diego Comic Con

I received my passes in the mail and that hit me that I was going to San Diego Comic Con! Finally! My friend Amy and I booked out flights and hotel and we are ready to go!

San Diego Comic Con 2017 pass
San Diego Comic Con 2017

My friend Amy lives in Sacramento and we just met up in San Diego. We stayed at Best Western 20 miles away from the convention. It was the only hotel we can afford. Every hotel was too expensive, especially the closest hotels to the convention was expensive.

WE MADE IT!!!

We had a blast! We were on our feet the whole day and walked a lot. I wished I had extra money. There was so many things I wanted to buy. Comic books, and collectibles were everywhere. I felt like a little kid in a candy store.

I traveled with a large luggage and it was half way full when I left San Francisco, but on my way home it was full!

We met new friends that have been going to comic con for years. They told us tips for next time we come. Everyone was friendly and helpful.

My friend and I didn’t really get to eat anywhere fancy because we were on a budget. But the Best Western that we stayed at was around the college, so a lot of places were able to deliver food to us. We mostly ordered delivery food because we were so tired from walking and standing all day.  And I slept like a baby!

How can I attend San Diego Comic con?

There are many ways to attend Comic-Con depending on your status in the industry (attendee, professional, press, etc…), but the first step for everyone is to sign-up for a Comic-Con Member ID. Anyone who wishes to register for or purchase a badge for Comic-Con must have a valid and confirmed Comic-Con Member ID. The Member ID system will close, without notice, in advance of any badge sale.

After you register, you will receive a confirmation email.

sdccblog2

Then when it’s the day of registration. You have to go online and sign in around 8:00 am. It will be the longest 1 hour ever waiting for your luck to get in.

When you get in, you can purchase days that are available. You have to be quick because it sells out quick! Good luck!

Celine Dion- Las Vegas

As you read from my last post Las Vegas. I was pretty bummed when Celine cancelled her shows last April. But I totally understand. I was lucky enough to be able to come back to Las Vegas the same year.

I found good deals from hotels.com just like my last trip. I stayed at Bally’s which was perfect because it was across Caesar Palace. I never stayed in the middle part of the strip and I was very excited.

June weather was hot! It was 90 degrees to 100 degrees all day. It was fine walking around at night, but during the day, I could not handle it.
The next day, I picked up my show ticket at will call and met up with my cousin, Theresa for lunch. We ate at Momofuku. The food was delicious and I ate the whole thing! Then we went to  Milk bar for desserts.

The VIP package from Celine show includes:

  • One excellent reserved ticket in rows 1-5
  • Pre-show dinner at a Caesars restaurant
  • One Limited Edition VIP Laminate & Matching Lanyard
  • VIP Priority Box Office Will Call Line at The Colosseum
  • VIP Priority Entrance Line at The Colosseum

They made a 5:30 pm reservation for me before the show and this what I had for dinner.

Every meal was delicious. I tried not to eat all of it so I can try everything. I finished the steak and of course I ate the whole cheesecake ha!

I got to the entrance door around 7pm and the show was going start at 7:30pm. I wasn’t too worried if I was going to be late. They had a special door for VIPs. I felt very special that I had skipped all the lines. Right when I passed the securities. An usher came up to me and check my ticket. She walked me to my seat and made sure I was comfortable.

Celine’s band started playing music as a warm up. Then all of a sudden the lights went off and a shadow started walking in the middle of the stage. There she was walking towards me! I was freaking out and excited at the same time. I could not believe that I was seating right in front of Celine Dion! She looked amazing and right when she opened her mouth started signing it was breath-taking. She sounded really good and look really great. Very funny too, as she jokes around during breaks. The show took about 2 hours, but when it ended it felt like a dream.

Now that she announced her final shows in the Las Vegas Caesar Palace. I will try to come back and see her again.

The next morning I had my flight at 5pm. I had a little bit of time to walk around. I had brunch at Wahlburgers. It was right next to Ballys and I didn’t feel like walking around in a hot weather. The burger was good. I never tired Wahlburgers and I was hesitant to eat there. But good thing I did. There was no line and I was seated right away. The staffs were very nice. They asked me where I wanted to seat and I sat outside. It gets too cold inside any restaurants in Las Vegas since they blast their AC on. But the outside was perfect they had a little water spray that comes out from the ceiling to keep everyone cool.IMG_5917

I hope you enjoy this post. Thank you!

Here is a short video of Celine Dion show from last June 8, 2018.

Las Vegas

For my 33rd birthday, we flew out to Las Vegas. I’ve been to Las Vegas a lot of times now. I have friends and family that live there. But one thing I haven’t done was to see a show. I always wanted to see Celine Dion. I looked at her show schedules and she has a show on my birthday, perfect! So, I bought a ticket to her show.

Found a great deal from hotels.com. But few days later from purchasing our plane tickets and hotels. I received an email from Celine Dion’s ticket seller. They cancelled her shows for 2 months, including the day I was going to. I was so bummed. But she is a human and she gets sick like everyone else. Unfortunately, she needed a surgery for her ear.

I received my refund from the show, but my plane and hotel were not refundable. We decided that we should still go and just do other things that we haven’t done. Besides gambling and drinking, there are other things you can do in Las Vegas.

We arrived in Las Vegas! The weather was perfect not too cold not too hot. Picked up our bags. Then checked in at the hotel. We stayed at the Luxor hotel. I never stayed there, but it was pretty cool. We had a free breakfast buffet and free room upgrade for my birthday. The staffs were very nice and helpful.

We went to Marvel Avengers STATION Marvel Avengers STATION and top golf. The Marvel Avengers STATION was awesome. If you like marvel universe you will enjoy this place. They made me feel like I was one of the Avengers. I was totally freaking out! Then we went to Top Golf Las Vegas afterwards. It was fun, but it can get expensive. We paid for $45 for 30 minutes to try it out. But that 30 minutes seemed pretty fast. We were having so much fun, so we added another hour, which it was $60. The longer you play, the more you pay. When we arrived, we had to sign up for a membership card. $5 per person. It can get very expensive. We also bought cheese nachos and calamari to munch on while we play and we received a free dessert for my birthday!

Day 2: Woke up early and had a yummy breakfast buffet. Then we called up for Lyft and drove to Seven Magic Mountain. It’s a large-scale desert artwork. Internationally renowned Swiss artist Ugo Rondinone’s Seven Magic Mountains is a large-scale site-specific public art installation located near Jean Dry Lake and Interstate 15, approximately ten miles south of Las Vegas. It was a pretty awesome to see the artwork up close. Check out the pictures!

My last night in Las Vegas was very daring. I went zip lining at Slotzilla! I was so nervous and I even had a minor panic attack, but everyone in line was very motivating. Everyone was scared but also excited to check it out. There were 2 different kinds of zip line. One was the regular zip line and the second one was Super hero zoom line. The regular zip line was flying 850 feet, 77 feet up, seated for $25 and for the super hero zoom fly 1,700 feet, 114 feet up, super hero-style for $45. My husband did the super hero style and I did the seated one.

We had our flight that afternoon and we only had time to walk around and to eat lunch. We had a reservation at The Gordon Ramsay Hells Kitchen.. The food was amazing! My husband ordered the burger and I ordered the beef. The beef was tender. It was melting in my mouth! I would go back and eat here again.

Here are some extra pictures from Las Vegas. Come check out my Celine Dion – Las Vegas post when I came back to Las Vegas.

Also, the last picture on the bottom was from Pin up Pizza!

New York

One of my favorite city is New York. I’ve experienced to be in New York pretty much all season and I will tell you, I do not like summer season! It gets pretty hot and sticky. I love to walk around get lost, but when it’s too hot I can’t handle it.

The last time I visited New York City, I stayed at The Dominick hotel . The hotel was amazing and the staff were very friendly. Starbucks was just across and that helped a lot.

I also visited The Metropolitan Museum of Art.  The museum was huge that it will take at least half of the day, so if you’re planning to go, try not to plan anything after. I’m so glad I brought my go pro with me!

General admission was $25 but they accept any donations as admission fee. Just between you and me, I basically paid $10. Shh..

I had a few extra hours after I visited The Met and walked around. I started walking around on 5th avenue and there I was surprised,  Cooper Hewitt Museum was just down the street. I went in, paid $7 student admission. You can buy tickets ahead of time on their website. They give you a special pen to scan things you like and to saved the anything you made. You’ll be able to check those out before you exit.

That night when I got back at the hotel. I found a free seminar at Noble Desktop.  I found a free seminar about Adobe Experience Design. The seminar was fun and everyone was very helpful. Noble Desktop offers a lot of things. Go check them out!
